ABOUT

For as long as I can remember, art has been a part of my life.   I remember my dad's art studio full of canvases, most paintings unfinished.  The smell of timber, oil paints and turpentine.  Mum would comment "he will never finish those!".  Besides painting canvases, dad also painted the inside walls of beautiful homes.  He even painted mosaic patterns inside of Gaudi's Casa Batllo in Barcelona.  Just like dad, my painting journey started by painting on walls.  Unlike dad, I wasn't paid for it, or have permission.

Fast forward a couple of lot of years, I now know that an artist never really finishes a painting.  So as always, mum was right.  Instead, an artist will just stop painting and call the painting finished.

I now love to lose all track of time in the process of creating a new art piece.  Obsessing over every single part of the design process and every section of the canvas.  Until it looks good enough to call complete.  The end result being lovely little stories open to be discovered and interpreted according to every viewer's context and creativity.  My favourite part is also the most intimidating.  It's the vulnerable part where I share my work with the world to see in hope that it will be the missing piece in completing someone’s happy space.

I hope you enjoy browsing through my collection of unfinished paintings just as much as I've enjoyed creating them.  Ruth x
